Meet James

I’m a licensed psychotherapist (LMFT #154299) based in Los Angeles, California. I offer LGBTQ+ affirming therapy for adults navigating relationships, intimacy, identity, and life transitions, with in-person sessions in Burbank and West Hollywood and online across California.

Many of the people I work with feel stuck in relationships or disconnected from themselves. My approach is grounded, relational, and focused on what’s happening in the present moment. Together, we explore how your past experiences shape the way you think, feel, and relate to others today so you can begin responding differently, taking risks in authenticity, and engaging more fully in your life and relationships.

My work integrates evidenced-based relational, depth, and experiential psychological approaches, including Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic awareness, Jungian, Gestalt, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I offer LGBTQ+ affirming, sex-positive therapy that is inclusive of diverse identities and relationship structures, including consensual and ethical non-monogamy (ENM).

Before becoming a therapist, I grew up on a farm in the Midwest and spent over a decade working in public relations and human resources for tech start-ups in San Francisco and Los Angeles. That path shapes the way I work: grounded, curious, and attentive to the stories we carry and the ones we’re still unfolding.

My clinical training began at the Ness Counseling Center where I lead men’s groups and provided therapy to adults, children, teens, couples, and families in collaboration with the Department of Children and Family Services. I’ve also served as a grief group facilitator at Our House Grief Support Center, and I’m currently part of the Beyond Psychology Center’s psychotherapist network. I completed my associate training under Michelle Seely, LMFT #41680, whose work in relational Gestalt and Jungian analysis continues to inform my approach.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Nebraska and a Master’s in Counseling (MFT) from California State University, Northridge.

If you’re looking for therapy in Los Angeles or online across California, you’re welcome to reach out to schedule a consultation.
